No...the site hasn't been dormant this entire time! From February 2005 through November 2006, regular minor updates were done to numerous pages throughout the Star Base Andromeda site. In December 2006, we ran into some technical "access" problems, which were not resolved until March of 2007. In that intervening time, the Robert Reed page on the SBA site was spun off into its own unique site and has now become the Official Robert Reed Site. Beginning in April, May and June of 2007, an effort has been undertaken to update nearly every page of the Star Base Andromeda website, on a page-by-page basis.
We plan to overhaul this page soon, with a more stream-lined explanation of on-going changes to the Star Base Andromeda website. Suffice it to say, since October 2004, we continue to make regular weekly updates -- check the dates at the bottoms of each page on this site to see when that page was last updated!
Updated the Robert Reed page, with over a dozen new review links and newer information about the forthcoming paperback release of Sister Alice. Updated the Star Base Andromeda Forums pages with blurbs about upcoming meetings and a reminder about the new reviews posted on October 6th. Added box with Christopher Reeve obit links on the main index page after learning of his death last night.
Added five book reviews to the reviews pages. Created a 2003 Reviews page, to house several reviews intended for as-yet-unprinted issues of The Log, which have been used here on the website instead.
Reworked the Reviews page to create an reviews index page that will jump to specific reviews. Updated the Book Discussion page with additional scores and corrections.
A few updates and corrections to various pages. The lack of regular new issues of the club's newsletter, The Andromedan Log, has led to a migration of some of the types of things that used to see print in that publication now appearing on our website. On August 26th, we launched a new page here on the Star Base Andromeda website -- Reviews. At present, all reviews on the site appear on the Current Reviews page. Eventually, older reviews will be archived, with only fresh new reviews appearing on this page. Although only movie reviews are present for this inaugural edition, we'll be including reviews of books, magazines, comics, television, video/dvd releases and any other format that material of potential interest to our membership (and general SF/F fans on the internet) is produced in.
Lots of minor updates and corrections to multiple pages since July 6th. On August 9th, we finished making scans of the old Andromedan Logs through the end of 1980 and uploaded them to the website. They are accessible from the Andromedan Log page. Did an extensive revamp of the Area Clubs, Cons & Stores page -- updated the convention listings to be current.
Updated most of the major pages tonight. Today, we officially launched the Star Base Andromeda Discussion Forum page, with a graphical link on the Index page only -- we hope to build links to the Discussion Page from several of the other pages eventually. We intend to use this page to spur discussions among SBA members, post news about upcoming SBA meetings and other events or activities, and to encourage visitors to our site to leave comments or post questions. This is a trial feature...we'll see how popular and useful it becomes. We also recently launched a similar page for the Robert Reed page.
There have been numerous minor updates on a dozen or more pages within the Star Base Andromeda website, but no major changes until today. Today, we quietly launched the Robert Reed Discussion Forum page, with very little fanfare. This page is a typical discussion "bulletin board", giving fans an opportunity to post questions or comments about Bob's stories and novels. This is a trial feature...we'll see how popular and useful it becomes. We're also just about to launch a similar page for the S.B.A. site in general, but wanted to try out the Reed Discussion Forum page first.
Updated the Book Discussions page to reflect the results of tonight's discussion of Larry Niven's Protector, plus the Main Index page to show Neil Gaiman's Coraline as the next book up for discussion.
Although it may not appear like it from entries on this page, updates have continued to be made on a weekly basis to various pages of the Star Base Andromeda website. The most recent update, today, included changes to all of the following pages on the site: Book Discussions, Future Book Discussion possibilities, Calendar of Events, Club History, Downtown Eats, Gaming, Main Index, Links, Robert Reed, and the TV Schedules page. Changes have ranged from extremely minor to major additions of new information. Please check out the individual pages for full information.
On Saturday, February 7th, 2004, 21 members (or family members) of Star Base Andromeda gathered at Old Country Buffet in Lincoln for a special dinner to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the club's founding. We've now got five pictures from this event up on our ClubInfo page. Still haven't put captions on them, though...
On Saturday, January 10th, we attempted a massive update to the Robert Reed page, thanks mainly to club member Frank Dreier, who located links to several dozen more on-line reviews to Reed's novels and stories. Work continues on a separate Reed page which will focus on his non-U.S. publication schedule and non-English websites including biographical or critical information about him. We hope to have this subsidiary page up-and-running before the end of January. Somehow during the upload, all the data for the Reed page was completely lost and had to be recreated from a cached version of the page on Google. The Reed page is now back, better than ever, with plans to add a signable "guest book" in the near future. In the meantime, since January 5th, we've updated the data in many of the other pages throughout the sba website -- check individual pages for update "dates" as usual.
Many of the pages of the SBA website were updated and tweaked between December 1st and December 31st. Check the line at the bottom of all of the individual pages to see the latest "update" date for each individual page. Thanks to club member Frank Dreier, links to several more on-line reviews were added to the Robert Reed page.
We've spent the past couple of weeks updating nearly half the pages on the site. After some disasterous html editing on the Reed page, it took a week to fix all the incorrect coding, but that page now seems to be back to normal.
Although the host computer for the Star Base Andromeda website has been operating fine for the past 2+ months, the computer that the master files are stored on and from which the updates are sent had a logic board go bad. During the past two months, we were deciding whether to repair that computer or upgrade with a new replacement. We are finally now back on-line and able to update the SBA site. Beginning October 21, 2003 and continuing over the next couple of weeks, we'll be massively updating files throughout www.starbaseandromeda.com. Please revisit the site regularly to see the changes. We hope to upgrade the Robert Reed page, with information about his publication history outside the U.S. We'll be completely revamping the TV Schedule page to reflect the new television season. We've got plenty of new sites to add to our Links page. And much, much more.
Engaged in a wholesale updating of data on about half the pages of the SBA website, bringing dates and deadlines up to their correct statuses. Added several movie premieres to the Calendar page. Added the next four selected book titles (and their respective covers) to the Book Discussion page. Added updated info to the Robert Reed page. Added a new Link of the Week to the Links page and to the graphical links on the main index page. Added news to the Club News page -- Mike Ponte's wedding, and Diane Taurins' local art show. Removed direct links to the Media News and News Archives pages from the "main menu" that appears at the bottom of each page on the SBA site -- we haven't been posting regular news on either of these pages, and until we're able to fully upgrade the site and post news on a regular, on-going basis, there's no point in having links to static pages.
Updated numerous pages with changed deadlines and schedule information. Added several new bits to the Robert Reed page, including an "upcoming appearances" box. Created a page for listing potential upcoming Book Discussion authors and/or titles. Updated the Book Discussions and Club History pages to reflect our most recent group book talk.
Fixed quite a few glitches on several pages. Updated changed dates/deadlines for various items on the Calendar page, the Book Discussion page and the Andromedan Log (and associated) pages.
Lots of updates to the Robert Reed page, to announce his nomination for the Theodore Sturgeon award. Added quite a few links to reviews to various of his novels and shorter works.
Your webmaster is finally back from a trip to MediaWest*Con 23, and the SBA web updates will resume again. First up, a wholesale updating of miscellaneous items on nearly a dozen of the club pages, including the Main page, the Calendar page, the Club History page, the TV Schedules page, the Links and Link of the Week pages, and many more. Also updated the Robert Reed page with several new reviews and alterations to his published canon.
We've actually been updating various pages bit-by-bit since the last major update, but tonight featured changes to probably a dozen different pages. Mostly updates of changes to club schedules and tv schedules -- check the "Last updated on..." line at the bottom of each page to see what's been tinkered with lately.
Updated several pages with new information following the publication of a new Andromedan Log issue, including the Andromedan Log page, the Personal Logs page, and the Andromedan Challege page. Added the news to the Robert Reed page that Reed has won a 2002 Asimov's Magazine Readers Choice Award for one of his 2002 short stories.
Revised the Andromeda One convention page, splitting off Andromeda Two into its own separate page. Loaded several pictures from both those conventions onto their respective pages, and changed links throughout the SBA site to reflect the new Con page. Added a photo to the clubinfo page, which is still waiting for a more detailed club history and other early photos to be added.
Added content to the Arith gaming campaign world page (thanks, Terri!). Revised the main entry page to make it a bit wider, and added links on the main page to both the Arith and K'Thyra gaming campaign world pages. Changed the Link of the Week to iFilm, and updated the Link of the Week archive. Added/updated info on the Robert Reed page.
Added July-December 2003 to the Calendar of Events page. Made changes to several pages to reflect a change in the date of our discussion of China Mieville's Perdido Street Station. Added review scores to the Book Discussion page for The Dying Earth. Corrected a few minor error on other pages. Modifed a few minor things on the main entry page. Watch for significant additions and changes this coming weekend.
A major milestone is reached today for some Star Base Andromeda members. It was on April 9th, 2003 that a group of SBA members began playing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in an original D&D setting known alternately as K'Thyra and Peregrine. The game continues to this day, 20 years later, with two characters still surviving from the first two sessions. A second game world under a different DM was launched in just the past few years. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the "Not Ready For Palmdale Players", separate subpages on the Star Base Andromeda site have been set up to chronicle both the K'Thyra and Arith games. These game sites will be updated sporadically, with the addition of character sketches, maps, and indexes which will help visitors navigate through 20 years worth of exceptionally bizarre game histories. For the time being, though, please feel free to look through a partially formatted history of the K'Thyra game. A special thanks to the dozen or more SBA members who've participated in this game over these past two decades! In addition to the gaming-related sites, several other pages on the SBA site have been updated with minor modifications in the past couple of days. Check the "last updated" lines at the bottoms of individual pages for current info.
Updated the "current" info on the Reed page to reflect Bob's appearance in a new issue of F&SF. Connected all the book covers in the Book Discussions page to their author's respective pages in the ISFDB. Added a text-only version of Presidio Mike Ponte's downtown d30 restaurant list to our downtowneats page -- this'll get some more snazzy editing in the future. Updated or corrected a few links on our Links page. Updated the Current SBA Members page and SBA Alumni page to reflect recent membership renewals and expirations.
The site itself played an April Fools practical joke. While attempting to upload the following changes overnight on March 31st, several pages ended up only partially loading, and numerous graphics ended up going missing. We're attempting to reload again on the evening of April 1st with these changes: Added features to both the Andromedan Challenges and Personal Logs pages, based on a new issue of The Andromedan Log. Updated bits and pieces of data on nearly a dozen different pages of the site, mostly just minor things that make cross-linking from one part of the site to another a little easier. Updated the calendar info on the main index page. Updated data on both the SBA Alumni and Current Members pages to reflect members with expired membership status prior to March 2003. Removed Farscape and Stargate SG-1 from the "first-run" schedule grid on the tvschedules page, since their seasons ended March 21st.
Rearranged some of the information on the Robert Reed page for better readability. Added some newly rediscovered data to both the Andromedan Challenges and Personal Logs pages associated with the Andromedan Log back issues. Added some info to the Video Week page, and replaced em-dashes with regular dashes on several pages to prevent weird characters from popping up in various web browsers. Made several corrections and updates to the Calendar of Events page. Created links from the Club History Timeline page to a separate Events page where we've started to post photographs from past Rigels and other public activities. If you've got any personal photos from past club events that you can share with the website, please get in touch with the webmaster.
Changed the new Link of the Week to an new entry. Hmmm...only three "Links of the Week" in over four weeks...not exactly doing this on a "weekly" basis, are we? Updated some info on the Robert Reed page. Tweaked some of the info on the main index page for better readability. Removed several series from the chart of current genre shows on the tvschedules page, since Beastmaster, Relic Hunter and The Lost World are no longer airing new episodes.
Added several more pdf issues of The Andromedan Log to the AL page. Tinkered at bit with data on quite a few different pages throughout the site. Added a link to the SaveFarscape campaign site on SBA's main index page. Fixed a couple of minor errors on the Calendar of Events page. Moved old news from the Media News page to the News Archive page -- we hope to get current news on the Media News page on an ongoing basis soon. Updated the biographical and publishing info on the Robert Reed page, adding quite a bit of information not previously there. Bob tells us he's already used this page professionally when dealing with his editor at Tor. Bob's also planning to give us something "special" to put on his page but wouldn't say what it was yet...watch for that coming up soon.
Added a chart showing the genre TV series currently airing in Lincoln to the tvschedules page, including links to the major tv schedule search engines and to the most useful elements of the SFTV.org website. Updated the Robert Reed page, adding some of his French publication credits (thanks to Frank for the suggestion).
Part One: Replaced the "highlighted text" links in the right side of the main/index page with more attractive buttons to tie in better with the graphical look of the pages. Fixed a few minor textual errors on other pages. Updated the calendar page with the potential date and theme of our next potluck. Part Two: Jim Kelly's on-line On the Net column has been posted on the Asimov's website, and references our Robert Reed page. The SBA site has been updated with "Welcome..." messages on both the Reed page and our main entry page to acknowledge the Kelly column. We'll leave these in place for a while. Added a snailmail address on the officers page, to allow for a method (other than e-mail) of contacting the club. Our site is now linked to on the SF Site research site, the Wayne State College SF Club site, and on the site of Lincoln's other club, LFSF.
Upgraded the info on the Robert Reed page, with biographical data, a link to an excerpt from the LOCUS interview (thanks, Frank!), and some link buttons near the top of the page for easier navigation. Added some "updated" icons in place of the spinning "new" icon in several pages to reflect a more accurate status change. Fixed a few more typos.
Added two more issues of The Andromedan Log as pdf files on our Andromedan Log page. Added the final scoring data from our 2002 "Multi-Course Meal" Battle potluck dinner to the Potlucks page. Fixed a few more miscellaneous items. Added a scanned image of the earliest publicity photo associated with SBA -- a photo which accompanied a June 16, 1974 article on Star Trek clubs in the Focus section of the Sunday Lincoln Journal-Star newspaper. This image is now located on the Club Info page, which will soon contain a text description of the origins and early history of Star Base Andromeda.
Fixed a few more minor typos. Replaced the page title graphics with newer ones that are slightly more attractive. Replaced some more broken links. Added a few more links to the Picnic and Area Fandom pages.
Fixed several minor typos or textual errors pointed out by various members. Added a PDF version of our current membership form to the joinsba page, to meet the needs of at least one former member who'd like to rejoin the club long-distance! Added PDF versions of the very first issue of the club newsletter, as well as issue #50 to the Andromedan Log page. Reformatted the Alumni page into an easier-to-read table, and rearranged it to be in order by the date individuals joined the club instead of by the date they attended their first meeting -- also renumbered the Membership Numbers accordingly. Tweaked the main/index page to make it a little bit more readable.
Major overhaul of the Robert Reed page, adding additional credits, including a list of anthologies containing Reed's stories, as well as links to on-line reviews and locations where Bob's works can be downloaded. Added a new "Link of the Week" to the Links page. Added additional photo to the Picnic page. Added n umerous additional information to the Club History page, including a variety of non-Nebraska conventions attended by several SBA members.
Added Ratings figures to Lincoln's Dreams in Book Discussions page. Started building a separate page for images from the various Rigel "Open House" events over the years, starting with photos taken at both halves of Rigel 7. Fixed a few more minor glitches.
After an intial test-drive of the new site, several graphical changes were made in our first update, including the elimination of most (if not all) of the "Under Construction" bars scattered throughout the pages. A number of typos were corrected, and a few broken links were fixed. A few extra links were established on several pages to the memberpages section of the site, which will eventually highlight current SBA members' personal homepages and favorite links. A number of introductory paragraphs were added to quite a few of the minor support pages throughout the site. The layout of the Andromeda Conventions page has been changed somewhat. And all Andromedan Challenges and Personal Logs entries from the newsletter have been copied onto their appropriate pages on the site. Modifications were made to the Book Discussions page to make it clearer what the book titles actually are, and to indicate more obviously which books have not yet been discussed.
What isn't new? starbaseandromeda.com launched today, only four days after the club's 29th anniversary date. Everything is brand-spanking new! We intend to use this page to chronicle new additions or updates to older pages as sba.com continues to evolve.
